When I put a call out on Facebook for gorgeous blonde 8-10 year old girls to model for some concept shoots for the upcoming Iris Awards, I had no idea how many beautiful applicants I would receive. When Olivia’s Mum sent through a shot of Olivia with her stunning identical twin sisters in the background, I was so excited that I came up with a new concept for all three of them!

The idea was some kind of nymph/faerie/bohemian urchins emerging from the wilderness (of Lower Hutt!). I whipped up the costumes from a set of sheets, a net curtain and a few lucky op-shop finds. On the day of the shoot (I had three other sessions planned too!!) the weather was absolutely horrendous, we shot this in the wind and rain and mud. I’ve never met three more happy-go-lucky troopers than these three girls! They don’t even look cold! My Iris concept didn’t really come off quite like I’d envisioned it, but the shots we took AFTER the serious part are absolutely delightful (in my humble opinion!)

I can’t wait to shoot with these girls again in a few weeks!

GOSH! That is a lot of exclamation marks!

You may remember Daphne’s wonderful Mum and Dad from their maternity portraits – one of my favourite sessions of the year. Their gorgeous newborn baby did not disappoint either, Daphne is to-die-for beautiful and was a dream to photograph even though it was a cold day when we met.

I can’t wait to see her again in a few months when she will be a bonny baby with smiles and giggles a plenty.

Whoa this poor blog is suffering from neglect this winter! Let me share with you this adorable shoot with gorgeous 5 month old Hugo who was a total flirt at his portrait session a few months back.

I love documentary style family portraits, but there is something quite timeless about a simple classic (natural light) studio style portrait too. One day (SOON I hope) I will have a dedicated space to shoot gorgeous portraits like this as mini sessions, so my beautiful newborn clients can get updated portraits during their first year for a discounted price.

Ah, one day.
