I’m a thief.

I steal things.

Things like love. Pride. Tears. Kisses. Secret glances. Nerves. Fear. Happiness. Devotion.

The thing I love most about wedding photography is the ability to see into a stranger’s life, on one of the most important days of their lives. By the time the wedding day rolls round, my couples and I have spent a fair amount of planning time together, I’ve probably photographed their engagement portraits, and talked at more depth about the history of their relationship than is socially acceptable. We’re kinda friends. In a weird way. But its when I see the look in groomies eyes when his babe emerges at the end of the aisle – that face completely overwhelmed with stoked-ness; or I catch the little prickle of a tear in her staunch Dad’s eyes, the overflow of his pride… its then that I feel like suddenly I’m seeing these people, for real, through the eyes of the people who love them. Those are the big moments. Those are the shots that any photographer will seize.

But look closer. Look around the big moments, and look into the quiet ones too. A wedding day is FULL of moments. Little tiny sneaky ones that don’t seem that important, or shuffle past without anyone noticing.

I notice them.

A look of reassurance, admiration, excitement. Stolen moments, frozen forever.

Here are just a few of thousands of stolen moments that Ryan and I captured during the second wedding of the season last year when Gemma and Clinton were married at Silverstream Retreat.

Sarah and Alan had the dubious honor of being my final wedding of the season for 2015. Sarah had planned their day mostly from their home-away-from-home base in London, so it was amazing to see the level of detail she had gone to. Everything tied together beautifully. There were lawn games created for the guests, games played at the reception, and a running cycle theme throughout the day to highlight Alan’s cycle obsession. The wedding was held at Brackenridge in Martinborough, one of Wellington’s top venues, on a perfect overcast day with glimpses of April sun sneaking though the clouds to perfectly light their portraits.

Congratulations Sarah + Alan on your beautiful wedding, thank you for trusting me to capture the day for you.

Here is just a small selection of images from their day.

So the middle of wedding season is possibly one of the more stupid times to arrange a styled shoot for a collection of top Wellington wedding vendors, but I have a theory that if you want something done, you ask a busy person. Or about 20 busy people in this case.

This Easter weekend just been, I helped to pull together a completely colossal collaborative wedding shoot at Pinehaven Orchards in Greytown.

The inspiration for this shoot started when I spotted the gorgeous Watters tea length gown from Paperswan Bride.  I knew instantly that we could create an incredible mid-century inspired shoot featuring my dream wedding dress! I didn’t get much further than thinking “um maybe sorta like 50s?” in terms of the styling when I started talking to the incredible Mindy from Twig & Arrow – even with such scanty genesis Mindy’s wildly creative stylists mind went  spiralling into stratospheres I had never considered and the idea developed into an autumn elopement picnic in the orchard.

A bazillion incredible vendors joined in on this shoot to make it completely inspiring – I hope you enjoy it.

They say ‘its not what you know, its who you know’. Well I like to think I know a fair bit, but my network in the wedding industry is second to none!
When Mindy from Twig & Arrow came to me about shooting a french country inspired model wedding at Sudbury on the Kapiti Coast, naturally I leapt at the opportunity. Sudbury is one of my favourite venues for rustic charm without having to endure any kind of dossing-down, and I knew Mindy would pull together an amazing shoot, styled to perfection. We found the perfect model – Chelsea (only 17 would you believe, a child bride!), arranged Jodie from Couture Candy Buffets to join in (and she built a frickin table for it!) with a Sweet Bakery cake to bootRebecca Connor joined in for hair and make up, and Jen from Paperswan Bride provided the most glorious Rue de Seine dress.
With a line up like that, this was set to be the perfect faux wedding (groom, schmoom), but add on the most glorious spring sunset, and an array of gorgeous cherry blossoms! Your could say it turned out alright…
